Women's soccer kicks off with a winning streak

The women’s soccer team started its season with a 5-0 win streak, making it the best record start in school history.

Senior defender Quincy Plank said she believes some of the team’s success comes from the group of seasoned returners.

“We have a solid group of returners who played together in the spring. I noticed in the very first game we played, we were all on the same page… we all know what our goal is during games,” Plank said.

With a large number of newcomers, Plank said that the team chemistry is continuing to develop. She said they’re still learning how everyone plays individually and as a unit.

“We’re all still trying to get to know each other… our playing style is unique, and everybody’s trying to get on the same page,” Plank said, “but the new players have come in and become an essential part of our team.”

The record breaking winning streak ended last weekend when the Jets fell to the Lubbock Christian Chaps 1-2. Plank made it clear that the team’s focus on the ultimate goal was unwavering.

“We really want to make it back to conference this year. We all believe we have a chance to be competitive in the tournament.”

To achieve this goal, Plank said that the team is taking the season one game at a time.

“We’re focusing on a game-by-game basis and trying to put ourselves in a good position for the rest of the year,” Plank said.

The lady Jets will continue conference play this week, travelling to Laredo, Texas face the TAMIU Dustdevils.
