Newman’s volleyball team is off to a rough start this season and has gone 0-9 in its first nine matches of the season.
The team has won five sets of the 32 played and has been swept in six of its nine matches.
Though Newman’s head coach Marisa Compton did not reply to requests for an interview from The Vantage, senior team member Olivia Parsley said she’s not discouraged yet and says that the team's time to shine is coming.
“We have great team chemistry this year,” she said. “I have never felt closer to a team. There have been a few struggles, but we are playing some really close and hard-fought sets that will start going our way.”
The team has seen one bright spot this year: Senior Natalie Morales hit a career milestone of 1,000 digs during her time at Newman against Pittsburg State University on Sept. 12.
The Jets play away today at Missouri Western and on Friday at No. 24 Northwest Missouri State.
The team’s first home game is not until Sept. 28 against Nebraska Kearney.
