Newman students looking for something to do this weekend can choose from several event options.
One is the volleyball team’s first home game of the season at 6 p.m. tonight in Fugate Gymnasium against No. 9 University of Nebraska-Kearney. The team will play another game at 6 p.m. Friday against Fort Hays State University.
Also on Friday, the Asian Student Association and the Multicultural Leadership Organization are inviting students to attend the Mid Autumn Moon Festival. The event, popular in Chinese culture, is a celebration of when the Chinese believe that the moon is at its brightest and fullest coinciding with a good harvest. It will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at Reeds Cove Clubhouse, and students must RSVP by contacting Sofia Loewen at loewen592273@newmanu.edu.
Students also can attend the rescheduled Sloppy Joe’s Improv show, which was canceled last week because of illness. The show now will happen at 8 p.m. on Friday in the Jabara Black Box Theater. Students can wear their favorite team’s jersey to the show, during which the Sloppy Joes will introduce their new “football team.” There will also be prize bags handed out, but supplies will be limited. Admission is free for everyone, including non-students.
