Thanksgiving Day is still a week away, but the Newman community will get a chance to practice for the big meal this week.
The Mabee Dining Center is hosting a Thanksgiving buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for all students, and even those without a meal plan are invited to eat.
The buffet, which is all-you-can-eat, will have several staple Thanksgiving dishes to choose from, said Chris Heck, director of food services for Newman. The buffet will include both ham, turkey as well as sides like stuffing, whipped potatoes with gravy, corn casserole and green bean casserole. Diners also will be able to dine on Waldorf salad, Ambrosia salad, deviled eggs, and cranberry sauce.
Those who still have room for dessert can choose from a giant display of desserts that will include apple, pumpkin, and pecan pies plus apple spice cake, cream puffs, assorted cookies, brownies, cranberry bars and pudding.
For students with a meal plan, the buffet will be free. It will be $9 for anyone else. Students are encouraged to bring cash to keep the line moving quickly. Credit cards will be accepted but ideally would be used only for those paying for larger groups of people.
Pants with stretchy waistbands are not included.
