Newman’s Multicultural Leadership Organization is having a busy Thursday.
The club is putting on not one but two events that students are invited to attend.
One is the club’s Mid Autumn Festival, which will happen from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight outside of the Gorges Atrium, DeMattias Hall. The group will be lighting glowing lanterns in celebration of the Mid Autumn Moon Festival, which is celebrated by many east Asian cultures and always falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month – usually in mid-September or early October.
The event, which is being put on in coordination with Student Affairs, will include games, snacks and a discussion.
The other MCLO event happens earlier in the day: at 12:15 p.m. in room 104 of the Bishop Gerber Science Center. The group is inviting the Newman community to attend its first general meeting of the year and meet board members, listen to guest speakers and learn more about the group. Those who attend also will be able to enjoy some snacks.
MCLO is a Newman University student group that promotes cultural awareness, unity and leadership. It’s known for its big Multicultural Extravaganza, which happens on campus every spring and features food, games, prizes and cultural performances.
