Newman University will hold its third annual Fall Formal, which will include dancing, socializing and fun, on Nov. 23 at the Dugan Conference Center.
The event, organized by Newman’s Campus Activities Board and Student Government Association, will run from 8 to 10 p.m. and is free for all Newman students and their guests to attend.
Travia Smith, one of the main organizers of the event, said that the Fall Formal will provide a unique chance for students to come together, dress up and enjoy the “party side” of Newman.
“Fall Formal is more like you dance, you listen to music, you socialize, and you eat good food,” Smith said. “So pretty much it’s just a night of fun.”
The Fall Formal has been a popular event since its launch in 2022. The idea originally came from current SGA President Alondra Valle, who said that her inspiration for creating the Fall Formal came from noticing a lack of social dance events on campus.
“My freshman year I noticed there was no dance,” she said. “The closest was the Jetspys, but that’s an athletic award ceremony and not a dance,” Valle said. “In the summer going into sophomore year, I told Josh (Prilliman, student activities director) I wanted to create a Fall Formal… Now, it’s going to be the third year doing this event.”
Valle said that the event this year will include various attractions, including music from DJ Carbon, snacks from Great Western Dining (including meatballs and mozzarella sticks), and a 360 photo experience, where subjects stand on a platform as a camera spins around them.
"The 360 booth is always memorable due to not having that anywhere else on campus," Valle said. “I want students to remember it as a fun event you can dress up at.”
The recommended attire for the event is semi-formal or formal, and the color scheme will be navy blue, white, gold and black.
