Former cheerleader to be arraigned for October shooting

By Vantage Staff

A former Newman cheerleader charged with first degree murder was let out of jail on a $200,000 bond last month and will be arraigned on April 18.

Carrice Profit, who came to Newman as a freshman during the 2023-2024 school year and was a member of the cheer and dance team, was charged in November in connection with a Halloween-night incident at Central and Oliver during which two boys, ages 13 and 15, were shot. Donald Williams, the 13-year-old, died in the hospital. He was an eighth grader at Curtis Middle School.

Profit, now 20, and her cousin, Jermall Lynn Campbell, then 19, were both charged with multiple counts. In addition to first-degree murder, Profit was also charged with criminal discharge of a firearm.

The probable cause affidavit filed in the case says that the shooting happened at the QuikTrip at 4730 E. Central during an incident that included 10-15 teenagers fighting in the parking lot. The 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg but survived.

Profit attended high school at Northeast Magnet in Wichita. She was a cheerleader for North High School for four years.

The last time she was pictured at Newman University was on Oct. 31, the same day as the shooting. She appeared with her fellow cheer and dance members in a photo posted to the team’s Facebook page showing them all dressed in Halloween costumes.
