One of Newman’s biggest annual student club events happens this weekend.
The Multicultural Leadership Organization’s Cultural Extravaganza is a spring event that includes a buffet, live music, dance performances and vendors.
It happens on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in DeMattias Hall. Tickets cost $5 for Newman students and faculty, $8 for ages 10 and up, $3 for children 2-10, and free for children 2 and under.
The event has many of the same performers people saw at the last event, the club’s vice president, junior Gabe Trevino said. Some were unable to return because of scheduling conflicts, though.
“Everything is pretty much the same from last year because we want to maintain the relationships that we have,” Trevino said.
The club was able to recruit a larger number of volunteers than usual for this year’s festival.
“We were able to get about 20 plus volunteers, compared to previous years where we may have only had like 10 or 12,” Trevino said. “Honestly, we have so much manpower that it’s been easy.”
The club is also hosting an Instagram giveaway with prizes such as gift cards, coupons and MCLO swag. The giveaway ends at midnight with winners being announced on Friday.
Similar prizes will be given out at the event for the winners of raffles and other games.
