Find the golden egg, win a big prize in campus-wide hunt

Search high. Search low. The coveted golden egg is back.

On Tuesday, Newman’s Campus Activities Board announced a campus-wide Easter egg hunt for the month of April.

More than 300 eggs have been hidden throughout campus, and some of them contain prizes, including individually wrapped candy or notes that can be redeemed for a small prize.

Students started hunting on Tuesday.

“We had a mini-drone from a few years back that never got awarded for whatever reason, so a student came in today and walked away with a tiny drone,” said Director of Student Activities Joshua Schoenecker-Prilliman.

Other potential prizes include things like miniature Uno cards, a mini pool table, or bags of candy.

Some eggs are redeemable for a free lunch with select coaches, staff and faculty members.

“They can go anywhere they want. That’s a conversation between the student and them,” Prilliman said. “There’s a different experience in this, and you don’t always get to have those interactions.”

All prizes are redeemable in the Student Life office, but some eggs may have notes in them that indicate there is no prize for that egg, or they may be empty.

“We filled them with strips of paper that said things like ‘X marks the spot, but this ain’t the spot,’” Prilliman said.

Similar to last year, there is one golden egg hidden on the main campus that is redeemable for 150 raffle tickets for Breakfast and Bingo at the end of the semester. This year, however, CAB has also hidden several decoy golden eggs.

While the challenge is only officially running for the month of April, Prilliman said he will allow students to redeem prizes until Breakfast and Bingo on May 9 since it will probably take a long time for all of the eggs to be found.

“If you want the 150-ticket golden egg, you’re going to have to work for it,” Prilliman said. “You have to be very patient. You have to check every corner, every nook and cranny.”
